Introduction to Department of Neurology

Neurology Department of Aerospace Central Hospital Department provides a learning environment for students from Peking University Health and Science Center and graduate students from JinZhou Medical University. The department has 100 beds, neurology intensive care unit (NICU), and has a variety of advanced equipments. There are 15 doctors in the department including two with doctorate degrees and 10 with master’s degree.

Innovative Treatments: Our department of neurology was one of the first in the country to develop Apoplexy unit treatment, and we remain one of the leaders in the country in the field of neurology to this day. We were the first to treat brain infarction by combining high-pressure oxygenation with administration of medicine. Our team of neurologists is exceptionally skilled at treating brain circulation related conditions, knowing when to use thrombolytic agents and other interventional treatments. We have made strides in treating Parkinson’s disease by combining western medicine with Chinese medicine, effectively decreasing their side effects and dependence. In treating patients suffering from depression, we were one of the first to use Heisman’s psychological scanning system, which allowed us to examine the relation of their mental and physical health. We have also come up with our own innovative way to effectively treat demyelination.

Research: Our research labs participate in four of “Tenth Five-Years’” national research subjects, one of Beijing Municipal science committee’s research subjects, one ministry-level scientific research subjects, and three hospital-level scientific research subjects. We have obtained provincial level recognition for two of our research. Our department has published over 50 papers in the last five years.

Patient Care: Our team of nurses provides the same care for our patients as a mother for her daughter. We practice what we call the “five one’s” and the “six before’s”. The five’s one’s are composed of a warm regard, an appropriate name, a cup of hot water, a set of instructions so the patient knows how to take care of himself, and a contact card so he may keep in touch with us even after he gets out of the hospital. The six before’s mean to help the patients before the patients ask for help, answer any question the patients may have before they ask, provide service before the patients request, communicate before the patients receive treatment, be in control before problems occur, and to patrol before emergencies occur. We provide moon cakes and dumplings for patients who are unable to spend Mid-Autumn Festival and Spring Festival with their family every year, making them feel like part of our family. Our refined patient care and quality service has helped our nurses gain recognition, being award the “Women Accomplishment Award” by National Federation of Trade Unions, praised by National Women Union and National Resource Committee,, and named “China’s revolutionary women” by National Female Doctors’ Association.

Patient Service: We believe that the patients can do no wrong, and that there are no tiny matters; we put a lot of effort into patient care as we try to make things as convenient for our patients as possible and help them in any way we can. Our patients are like our family. We hold meetings for our patients to talk to our doctors regularly, for them to give us feedback and for us to answer any question they may have. We give our patients our contacts after they leave the hospital and furthermore, have some of our doctors check up on them to provide new instructions and update their prescriptions as they make their recovery. Our cell phones are turned on at all times so they may contact us 24 hours a day.

Our leader: Du Jichen is a doctor of medicine, associate professor, vice-chief physician, graduate student teacher, Aerospace Center Hospital vice-president. He is also the vice-leader of the Chinese Parkinson Treatment Association, a member of the Chinese Brain Health Commission, and is part of the editorial committee of “Aerospace’s Book of Medicine”. He has vast knowledge in brain circulation diseases, Parkinson’s disease, demylination, neuroelectrical physiology and psychological diseases. He has published over 20 papers and has obtained recognition at the provincial level for two of his researches.
